The fallacy of appeal to vanity occurs when an arguer sets up the listener to feel flattered if they accept a proposal, and conversely, shamed if they do not.


Here is an example:

"A warm-hearted person like yourself will surely want to contribute to our charity drive."


This implies that if you make a donation, you are warm-hearted, and if you don't, then you are cold-hearted.
